Works of art, sustainable and intelligent buildings, residential and industrial buildings, road and network developments… Spotlight on ETSIC Caen, a major engineering school specializing in construction, with its director and a former student.
ESITC CAEN’s training opens up a wide range of professions by offering a 360° vision of construction, from team management to agency management, through the design of works, etc.
A training responding to the themes of tomorrow… ESITC Caen has equipment that is unique in France, enabling engineering students to prepare for the challenges of tomorrow (BIM skills centre, eco-materials laboratory, wave channel, etc.).
… by training construction engineers with six possible specializations, but also bac +3: bachelor Construction (accessible directly post-baccalaureate and conferring the degree of license) and bachelor BIM Designer (in one year after bac +2). ESITC Caen also trains experts on its flagship themes Ecomaterials and BIM design, SMART Construction and Maritime and Port Works (Specialized Masters accredited by the CGE).
Why choose ESITC Caen?
In four key points, Jérôme Lebrun, director of ESITC Caen, tells us why to join his engineering school.
1. Because construction is a top recruiter in France and that the range of professions in the sector is infinite: designing, supervising, investing in the professions of sustainable development, R&D and innovation to build bridges, tunnels, smart buildings, connected structures, offshore structures… The challenges to be met are numerous and the need for recruitment very strong. One condition: wanting to give meaning to what you do and wanting to do something useful.
2. Because ESITC Caen trains in the latest technologies to practice the professions of tomorrow with an integrated research laboratory, work around eco-materials, the efficiency of materials, hydraulics, but also a pedagogy based on the concrete.
- The school is a pioneer in BIM (Building Information Modeling) – digital design of a building or a structure – a real wave in the world of construction.
- Teaching at school is done in collaborative mode: construction is a collective adventure with role-playing, fun and interactive teaching.
- The school has come up with the CAP (Cohésion Acculturation Professionnalisation) system: 15 days after the start of the school year, classes stop to visit construction sites, meet former students and attend conferences.
3. Because the ESITC Caen training courses, accessible on Parcoursup, give pride of place to internships and international training. The school favors role-playing, with 16 months of internship on the course and 80% of professional speakers. Because construction is French excellence that shines in the world, a stay abroad (internship, semester, double degree) is mandatory.
4. Because the ESITC Caen campuses are fulfilling environments where it is good to study… When you choose a school, you also decide where you will live for several years. The Caen campus of 7,530 m2, which has several centers, is 15 minutes from the sea and the city center. The Lyon campus, open at the start of the 2021 academic year, is currently hosted on the ENTPE campus, a center of construction expertise. And finally, the satisfaction ranking of the school’s students is among the best in France, ESITC Caen is making sure of that.
The moment when…
Albane Raphaël, engineer in civil engineering specializing in civil engineering and graduated from ESITC Caen in 2021, is 24 years old. Recruited by Vinci’s international entity (VCGP) following her end-of-study internship, Albane is now a works supervisor and engineer in Denmark. She looks back on the key moments of her studies.
The moment I chose the construction sector. “As a child, I was already building Lego bridges. Bridges were my passion! In third grade, I picked up my phone to get an observation stage at Vinci, on the biggest construction site in Europe: the construction of the High Speed Line which allowed hundreds of works of art. And there, I knew that I wanted to make it my job. We change people’s lives by making it easier for them to travel! Today, I work on the Fehmarn Tunnel site. This future undersea tunnel will connect Germany and Denmark, therefore all the rest of Scandinavia. It’s exciting. »
The moment I chose ESITC Caen. ” The trigger was made by discovering that the school had a specialty in Structures, then by visiting the Caen campus, where I had a very warm welcome. Coming from Marseille, I really liked the region, this campus on a human scale, the architecture of the school, the people, in short, I saw myself living there for several years. I loved teamwork: in construction, you don’t build anything alone! »
The moment I found my last internship. “It is the culmination of my dearest wishes. I dream of being an expatriate and working on a big project. By signing this end-of-studies internship, I checked all the boxes. Currently, I live on the island of Lolland, where the construction site is located. I work in an international environment and people around me speak Danish, Polish, Romanian, English… Despite our differences, we are all aiming for the same objective: to build this tunnel that will connect two continents. »
