Enough space on the grid for solar panels in Amsterdam
The electricity grid is aimed at full and therefore more solar panels may be added, reported in the media. That may be true in some areas of the country, but luckily there is still plenty of room in Amsterdam. The number of solar panels can even grow considerably. And if your panels produce more energy than you need, they can supply the surplus back without any problems.
Large solar parks are being built in rural areas because there is space for them. An extensive electricity infrastructure is often not (yet) available. So there is soon a surplus of energy on the grid. Because there are no nearby industries from cities to take all that energy, ‘clogging’ occurs. The result: the electricity network comes to a standstill.
Big question is a knee point
More and more Amsterdammers are talking about electric cooking, heating and driving. We are preparing for natural gas-free. There is a lot of demand for green energy. Those bigger rushes for electricity can actually cause problems for the Amsterdam electricity network. To tackle this and to ensure that the electricity supply is ready for the future, we work closely with grid operator Liander. The goal is that we avoid the delay.
We leave no roof unused
In Amsterdam we want to install solar panels on all roofs that are suitable for this purpose. Not just on the rooftops of the municipality; we also help companies, housing associations and residents to install panels. We do this, for example, through purchasing campaigns for homeowners.
