Budapest would be green by involving start-ups
Developing and making a big city more livable requires innovative ideas that can reform existing systems. The Budapest Public Enterprise Development Foundation (BVK) is looking for innovative solutions to make Budapest a more livable, greener and sustainable product. In an idea competition, companies were selected that could implement their unique, innovative ideas in partnership with the companies set up by the capital, providing a real, environmentally friendly solution to everyday problems.
The collaboration will benefit not only the city, but also the selected teams, four of whom will be mentors at the Start it @ K&H incubator. Within the framework of the program, BVK provided an opportunity for the 12 key project owners of the competition to present their solutions to the decision-makers of the town hall and the public utilities in Budapest, as well as to offer office and growing premises.
Control of electric buses
Volteum’s innovation can be used to quickly and easily model the expected consumption and charge of electric buses before they actually travel. In this way, it can optimize the urban transport of electric buses and avoid them being discharged on the fly. The startup can assess which lines in the capital are suitable for electric buses, and this may be the first step towards a more environmentally friendly Budapest.
He fights against food waste
Munch provides a solution to the complex problem of food waste, allowing restaurants to sell their leftovers at a discount at the end of the day. With the Munch platform, in addition to reducing the amount of food thrown away but still consumable, restaurants earn extra revenue and shoppers get access to food at almost half price. The team advises the capital to take further important steps to reduce pollution and food waste on a larger scale.
Short supply food network
The development of Bedrock.farm offered a solution to one of the major challenges in agriculture, the problem of increasingly declining arable land. An environmentally friendly and automated vertical crop production system has been created that is able to supply restaurants, shops and other commercial units with seasonal weather and high quality vegetables. The team can contribute to the development of the short-term food network in Budapest.
Kruz Bike, a startup providing bicycle fleet services, will also develop and promote cycling in the capital award.
