The Greek Police, through the Department of Immigration Management of the Directorate of Foreigners of Attica, participated in a joint day of action, created under the coordination of EUROPOL, with the police authorities of Germany, in the framework of which the dismantling of an international ring of illegal trafficking in Greece was achieved. in Germany.
In particular, as it emerged from the investigations, the members of the criminal organization joined it at least from 2019, having an operationally structured and ongoing transnational action, they are mainly active in the trafficking of minor immigrants. In order to achieve their goal, they applied the method of “Sosia – lookalike” and promoted immigrants by air, through the international airports of Athens and Thessaloniki, but also by ferry via Igoumenitsa to Italy. In more detail, in terms of their action, it turned out that the leading member of the group that was active in our country and was arrested, undertook to conclude agreements with candidates for the promotion of immigrants, offering them temporary accommodation until the organization of their illegal promotion. Also, in each case, he provided them with travel documents of third parties.
Another leading member, a foreign permanent resident of Germany, after concluding agreements for the promotion of immigrants, came to Greece by air and took on the role of escort of immigrants to their final destination in Germany.
In cases where she accompanied minors, she presented them as her children, using the documents of her real child, as the case may be. At the same time, he discovered the market of travel refugees (TDV) who were in Germany and sent them to Greece, in order to be trafficked by the illegal movement of immigrants.
In fact, the travel documents that were successfully released by the circuit were sent to the main accomplice in Greece, in order to be reused.
The material gathered revealed the involvement of the transnational criminal network in at least 10 cases, illegal trafficking of migrants, promoting a total of 7 minors and 5 adult migrants, with a final destination in Germany.
They also traded a total of 20 third-party travel documents which were used for illegal promotions. It is noted that the amounts of money earned for each trafficking ranged between 4,500 to 6,000 euros per person.
In a coordinated police operation, during the Joint Day of Action, which took place the day before yesterday (February 1, 2022), in the area of Athens, the leading member active in Greece was arrested and during a search of his residence, the following were found and recorded:
- 12 identity cards of European countries,
- 8 passports of European countries,
- 4 residence permits in Greece and Germany,
- 4 German insurance cards,
- 2 consular visas (VISA) of European countries,
- laptop,
- 4 mobile phones and a car.
- The confiscated travel documents sent to the Directorate of Criminological Investigations, for laboratory tests. As it turned out, from the control of the confiscated documents, a total of 10 identity cards, 5 passports and 2 residence permits have been registered as printed stolen – lost.
It is pointed out that, during the investigations in our country, a criminal case was filed for 5 more foreigners, 2 of whom are identical to Germany, while a person has been sought who has been issued against the European Arrest Warrant for his participation in illegal promotions. . immigrants.

The arrested person, with the case file against him, for facilitating illegal entry or exit, possession of passports and travel documents of third parties and forgery, was taken to the competent Prosecutor’s Office.
