“The State Security Council has given support to intensive efforts to find a diplomatic solution. We consider it necessary and responsible to prepare the Czech Republic for the effects that the violent aggression of Russia on Ukraine would have, “said Prime Minister Petr Fiala after the meeting of the State Security Council.
According to him, the interdepartmental working group evaluates possible risks in the areas of cyber attacks, activities of foreign secret services, migration, price increases or suspension of supplies of raw materials or protection of citizens, compatriots and property of the Czech Republic in Ukraine.
Interior Minister Vít Rakušan (STAN) emphasized that there are already “type scenarios for such threats”, which are now being revised so that they can be implemented very quickly. According to him, the Ministry of the Interior would coordinate humanitarian aid to Ukraine, if necessary, in addition to internal security issues. He added that Czech police officers are ready to go to help guarding the Slovak-Ukrainian border if Bratislava so requests.

Fiala and also the Ministry of Defense Jana Černochová (ODS) pointed out that at the time of the meeting, an agreement was signed, according to which the Czechia will send four thousand 152 millimeter artillery shells to Ukraine. They were designed for self-propelled howitzers Dana. Jakub Fajnor from the press department of the Ministry of Defense specified that Ukraine would ensure the transport of ammunition on its own.
The government has decided to support Ukraine at a time when Russia has concentrated some 100,000 troops near its borders and in occupied Crimea. Western countries are therefore afraid of a new invasion, Moscow denies such plans.
