Walk-in meeting street art Plein ’40-’45
Plein ’40-’45 will have an appealing and unique international work of art. This street art work of art is a gift to the Bloomberg Philantrophies district, the municipality of Amsterdam (Art and Culture), Amsterdam Fund for Culture (AFK) and the Nieuw-West district.
Residents have been invited by letter to a walk-in meeting. During that meeting we will share more information about the temporary artwork, the colors and the artist.

temporary artwork
Residents and entrepreneurs have previously indicated that they experience the square as one-sided, colorless and too petrified. This temporary work of art is intended to enliven the square for about 2 to 3 years until the square is redesigned.
Last year, part of the street art was designed by artist Kenor in consultation with Street Art Museum Amsterdam (SAMA), thanks to the residents and alderman Meliani (Arts and Culture) who contributed to this.
The color palette and the different forms of its creation do away with the one-sidedness and make the square cheerful, unique and a pleasant place where residents like to meet. The interaction with ‘the other’ and ‘every other’ (inclusion) demonstrates commitment, in keeping with the special, historic character of Plein ’40-’45 as Amsterdam’s second memorial square.
Further execution
The further implementation of the temporary artwork will follow in March and we hope that many residents will then want to paint: everyone from the neighborhood is welcome! We will inform you about this at a later date.
Part of the artwork has already been painted. What do you think of the result?
