England plans to convince Elanga to leave Sweden
England plans to convince Elanga to leave Sweden for international assignments.
The Manchester United man has been a revelation under manager Ralf Rangnick and has started matches ahead of Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford with reports that the player could be mentioned by the English Football Association for a change of loyalty.
The 19-year-old joined United when he was 12 and has lived in the UK long enough to represent the Three Lions, according to reports from The Sun.
Born in Sweden to a Cameroonian father, Elanga has represented Sweden at junior level after playing for Malmö at a very early age; the player who collects eight appearances for the U21 team in Sweden.
Elanga has not only been in eight games for United this season, but he has also started the last three games.
He opened his account this season in United’s 3-1 win over Brentford earlier this month and there are reports that Sweden coach Janne Andersson had hoped to include him in a planned 24-man tour of Portugal this week but Rangnick blocked the previous the month.
However, the Swedish Football Association is not said to be in a state of panic as they expect the player to be part of their World Cup semi-final against the Czech Republic in March.
