Installation of high temperature heat pump Daikin Altherma 3 H HT Prague
We gain experience from the real operation of the Daikin Altherma 3 H HT EPRA18 heat pump with an integrated 230 l DHW tank for DHW heating, DHW heating and indoor pool heating. How satisfied are the owners with the heat pump in terms of comfort and noise? And how was the actual energy consumption compared to the pots?

Daikin launched a new Daikin Altherma 3 H HT high-temperature heat pump with a nominal power of 14, 16 or 18 kW in 2020, which, even at an outdoor temperature of -15 C, can only reach an inlet water temperature of 70 C with a thermodynamic cycle without the support of an electric which is in addition to the acoustic power of 54 dBA very quiet. Daikin has agreed to install this 18 kW heat pump in Tereza Salte’s house in Prague with a duty that has the actual value of electricity consumption and heat produced in real operation.
Design a new heat source
The original source of heating in the assessed building was an electric boiler, which provided not only heating and preparation of TV. The indoor pool was heated by a separate 6 kW electric heater. Heating is provided by three floor heating in the ground floor and in the pool room, and by radiators in the living room in the first floor. The investor demanded the payment of resources for an efficient heat pump, which would ensure the full heating of the water in the pool.
According to the newly created project of heat source change, the heat loss of the building was set at 16 kW. The required heat transfer for the radios is 55/45 C. A new plate heat exchanger has been installed with a heat pump, which has replaced the electric heating of the pool water. For this reason, the designer designed a Daikin Altherma 3 H HT heat pump with the designation outdoor unit EPRA18DW1, with an indoor unit with an integrated stainless steel tank with a capacity of 230 l with the designation ETVH16S23D9W, which has an integrated power supply 9.

Heat pump operation and operating costs
The heat pump was put into operation in the mode of heating and hot water from 1 December 2020. The plate heat exchanger for pool water heating was connected later and the pool water heating is provided by a heat pump from 1 February 2021. The unit itself is manufactured and energy consumption, due to a detailed analysis of the operation, a calorimeter was installed on the connecting pipe between the outdoor unit and the indoor unit for less actual energy production, supplied only by a heat pump. On September 21, 2022, the company took part in analyzing the name of the data. The inlet water temperature setting was according to equithermal regulation 35 and 50 C depending on the outdoor temperature (50 C at -10 C outdoor temperature) and according to the user information, this temperature was set for the entire operation of the heat pump. The energy values were deducted from both the integrated menu and the calorimeter fitted. According to the integrated currency, the heat pump produced 43,545 kWh of heat during its operation. The nominal value was 43,717 kWh on the external calorimeter. The deviation of both currencies is less than 1%. The wattmeter monitoring the heat pump consumption recorded 12,446 kWh of electricity. A wattmeter monitoring the electricity consumption of a 9kW bivalent power source recorded a consumption of 2,899 kWh of electricity. In this case, the heat pump alone covered 94% of all heat demand for heating, heating the TV and heating the pool, the remaining 6% is covered by a bivalent electric source.
The total consumption of the bivalence heat pump system is therefore 15,345 kWh. The total thermal energy supplied by the heat pump is 46,616 kWh (T + electric bivalence). The total value of the system is therefore 3.04 – so we gained 3.04 kWh of heat from one kWh of electricity during the operation of the heat pump. The heat pump itself (without a bivalent source) operated with an activity of 3.51, so the software update was updated according to the bivalence and the operation according to T was used to increase the operational dispute.

If the investor continued to use the electric heating instead of the Daikin Altherma 3 H HT heat pump, the electricity consumption for the period under consideration would be 15,345 kWh instead of 46,597 kWh. If we consider the current energy price in the D57d tariff, which is around 2.8 K / kWh in the low tariff, then the operating costs are about 43,000 K instead of 130,000 K and the current dispute for about a quarter of the year is 87,000 K. The price of duties realization per key in this case was around 480,000 K, with the fact that a subsidy of NZ 65,000 K was provided for the payment of electrical heating. The expected return on investment in the event of a subsidy will therefore be about 4 years.

User experience with heat pump
Other very important parameters of the heat pump operation are, in addition to the operating costs, thus ensuring the required internal thermal comfort and noise. Mr. Tereza Salte and her husband described the experience with the operation of the heat pump and whether the thermal comfort was interesting during the whole year of operation. The investor warned us that even during the great frost in the attic, where there are only radios, it was cold. For this reason, we have adjusted the equithermal regulation to the input water 55 C instead of the original setting of 50 C. According to the investor, we have the option of easy transfer and additionally required input water using a mobile application on the phone. The suitability of the Daikin Altherma 3 H HT heat pump is that the inlet temperature can be set to 70 C and the heat pump can reach this temperature even at an outdoor temperature of -15 C without switching on a bivalent source, so sufficient thermal comfort can be ensured even when connected to old radios. requiring a high water inlet temperature. And thanks to easy control of the phone, you can set it up at any time.
According to we asked the user about the experience with the noise of the heat pump. Noise was one of the main criteria of investor choice, so we were very interested in how subjectively perceived the noise of the heat pump and whether it met their expectations. Due to the fact that the heat pump is for heating the pool and hot water and is located directly on the terrace and outdoor seating, we were interested in how this summer traffic can be heard. The investor showed great satisfaction with the noise and confirmed that the unit in lt bv tm inaudible operation. In the winter, the noise due to the compressor and fan is slightly different, but it still does not bother the owner or the neighbors, and even here it has met the owner’s expectations.

So far, the values correspond to an operating cost of 33% compared to the original heating source. After about eight months of operation, the operational dispute simply confirms the return on investment of about 4 years compared to the original electric boiler. The heat pump can be used flexibly in both new buildings and buildings with old radios that require a high inlet water temperature. Thanks to the online application, the unit can be easily controlled and the appropriate inlet water temperature can be adjusted as required. The noise level of the pump in the summer is darkly inaudible, in the winter the operation is quiet and does not disturb the user or the neighbors.
