The world of rugby is in mourning. The former opening half of the XV of France Guy Laporte died on the night of Friday January 28 to Saturday January 29 in Toulouse. He was 69 years old. The former French international suffered a heart attack. He had been transported in critical condition to Rangueil hospital.
Guy Laporte was born on December 15 in Beaufort in Isère. He then trained in Rieumes in Haute-Garonne. But it was in Graulhet in the Tarn that he spent most of his career, from 1972 to 1988. He was an outstanding scorer. He therefore wore the jersey of the French team on several occasions between 1981 and 1988. The player was 29 when Jacques Fouroux selected him and associated him with Pierre Berbizier at the hinge.
After his career as a player, Guy Laporte entered the French Rugby Federation where he held several positions. He was notably manager of the French team from 1993 to 1995. In 1995, he was also named Chevalier of the Legion of Honor. Guy Laporte also went into the police. He was a municipal and regional councilor in Graulhet and in the former Midi-Pyrénées region.
