Lesy Praha: Vokovický rybník has a new look and a transition for fish
29.01.2022 16:11 | Press Release
At the end of last year, we completed the complete revitalization of the Vokovice pond.
The small pond, which is located on the Litovický stream above the Džbán reservoir in Prague 6, has been rebuilt not only with new technical facilities, but also with a more natural character with gradual shores and a crossing for fish.

Originally an old village pond, it has served since the 1960s as a sediment trap from the stream basin and prevented clogging of the Džbán swimming pool below. Its technical condition had been deplorable for many years, the embankment walls were crumbling, the reservoir was leaking, and the water facilities were destroyed. In the spring, we first removed over 250 m3 of settled sediments from the tank and subsequently reacted the damaged concrete surfaces. We repaired the embankment walls, which had to remain here due to lack of space, but we slowed down most of the banks and strengthened them with a stone plain. We replaced the original bypass concrete pipes with a new low wall on the right bank. Under normal water conditions, the wall is hidden below the surface, but if necessary, a regulated water transfer through the pond is safely ensured. We have also built a new safety spillway, which includes a so-called fish pass, which will facilitate fish migration through the basin. The original riverbed under the pond also gained a more natural look, where the unsightly concrete was again replaced by a stone leveling board.
The investor of the construction was the capital city of Prague and the costs for the reconstruction of the reservoir amounted to approximately CZK 14.5 million.
