A mess of irregulars Meltheads compete in the final of De Nieuwe Lichting: “For the first time we had panties thrown at us, such a dirty string with flowers” | Antwerp
ANTWERPOn Monday evening, four crazy guys played in the Antwerp honor at the tenth edition of Studio Brussels music competition De Nieuwe Lichting. Garage and punk band Meltheads – who recently won the SoundTrack competition – can thus follow in the footsteps of Brihang, Equal Idiots, Tamino and Sons, among others. “We have always said that we leave a tattoo when we play in AB, now that is suddenly no longer a distant dream.”
Who the nine finalists of De Nieuwe Lichting 2022 sees a collection of somewhat dapper band photos, beautifully portrayed in front of a wall. The motley crew that recorded themselves Meltheads immediately jumps out. They have stolen a nadar fence somewhere and are working with it in a forest. One of the rascals looked half head over heels in the direction of the lens. The tone is set.
Singer Sietse Willems (21) from Borgerhout – he would also sometimes try to play guitar -, bassist Tim Pensaert (22) from Antwerp, guitarist Yunas De Proos (20) from Hoboken and drummer Simon de Geus (23) from Mortsel agreed on Friday evening in their favorite music café Cabron to discuss their latest promo strategy towards Monday’s final.
Dear Monica
Meltheads with the song ‘Sweet Monica’ to the final, a punk rock power song of less than ninety seconds. ‘Who is Monica? A friend of mine, where I used to be a crush had,” laughs Sietse. “The lying is the result of what happened between us at the time. I may have differed very often, but that is not a really special story, everyone exaggerates in that,” Sietse chuckles. “I still get along very well with Monica. Her current boyfriend is even doing a techno remix of ‘Sweet Monica’ under his alias Olen. We are very curious about that.”
