Guerschon Yabusele (Real Madrid, winner of Monaco): “Still on a little cloud”
“You win after a crazy match…
We expected it. When you come to Monaco, you know it’s going to be a tough game. They remained on a small series of victories (four), so therefore, they were a little more confident. It was complicated, but we won, that’s what counts.
Is it through experience that your team was able to make the difference, after being down six points at the end of regulation time, and five at the end of the first overtime?
We have a lot of players who have experienced scenarios like the one tonight, so that helps. We were able to stay calm, with everyone in their role, help each other, see where we could penetrate, and give the ball to whoever had to score.
“I try to play on this energy, to take rebounds…”
On a personal level, you have a big game in terms of points, rebounds (18 points, 6/11 in shooting, 3/5 in 3 points, 10 rebounds, 5 fouls caused)…
This is my registry. I try to play on this energy, to take rebounds, to make good passes and to try to mark when it is open. As always, I manage to perform because my teammates make me perform. They open up a lot of space for me and I manage to read the game. Tonight it was me, but next game it might be someone else.
Do you expect such a rapid integration into such a prestigious team?
We have so many experienced players, who are used to integrating new players… And at Real, they have put everything in place to make me feel good. Within such a structure, one can only perform. Afterwards, it’s an incredible feeling. Every evening, when I call my family, we still say it. Can resign here (until 2025), it’s also amazing. Just with the Olympics (silver medal in Tokyo) and the title of champion of France with Asvel, it was a magical year for me. So I’m still on cloud nine. I try to look ahead, to progress, to continue to learn and to always give the best of myself.
The French interior doublet was decisive, Vincent Poirier also had a big game (10 points, 14 rebounds including 8 offensive)…
As per usual. It’s Vincent, the rebound machine. He takes all the bullets. We are also trying to find it. We are really a team where we all try to help each other and we generally all finish with good marks. »
