Process in Cologne: high security precautions for Thomas Drach | Regional
Cologne – Next Tuesday, the Cologne district court is expecting a “prominent” criminal: Thomas Drach (61) will be tried in room 112 from 9.15 a.m. for several robberies on money transporters. For the Reemtsma kidnapper, the court becomes a high-security wing because of the risk of escape! BILD knows the details!
► Even before Drach comes to the district court, he is thoroughly examined in the Cologne prison. The career criminal can choose his own clothes and have his lawyer take him to the high-security wing.
But every single piece of clothing is checked by hand and then X-rayed. Before he leaves jail, he has to do a rapid corona test.
► Drach then travels by helicopter from the Cologne prison to the court, which is seven kilometers away as the crow flies. The helicopter lands in a parking lot that was specially mowed on Monday.
Shortly before, the police welded all the manhole covers around the courthouse. The reason: This is to prevent Drach accomplices from being able to attach explosives here during a rescue operation. Several streets will be closed.
► BILD learned: With his hands and feet tied and a blindfold, Drach is then led into courtroom 112 by heavily armed police officers. Spectators have to go through two security gates instead of just one as usual. Here they are checked for weapons, among other things.
If convicted, Drach faces life imprisonment, with his criminal record the particular severity of the guilt is conceivable. That meant then: forever behind bars. Until death.
