«Countries must be saved. Divert the fast train “
“That of the Rome-Pescara it is a strategic project, it must move forward, we must avoid a movement forming against this work No TAV. This is why dialogue with local communities is essential ». Who speaks is Luigi Febo, president of the municipal council of Chieti. The Municipality of Abruzzo has called an open assembly for next January 31st, to which it has also invited the managing director of the Railways, Luigi Ferraris, and the commissioner of Rome-Pescara, Vincenzo Macello. The theme of the will be the layout of the work, which crosses the inhabited centers of various municipalities and involves the demolition of numerous houses.
President, what is the purpose of the city council on January 31st?
«The aim is to make those who have designed a dialogue, is planned and must carry out the intervention with local and local institutions. I believe that a dialogue is needed to find the best solution for such an important project, a strategic infrastructure to connect the Tyrrhenian and the Adriatic ».
Isn’t that the risk of blocking the work?
“This is not the intention. As I said, this is an infrastructure that we consider strategic. The high speed will also benefit the city of Chieti and the whole territory. However, we ask to be able to talk about the layout of the work ».
What are the criticalities of the route proposed by RFI?
«For Chieti and Manoppello we have a doubling which leads to the demolition, as well as of infrastructural works, such as underpasses and underpasses, also of private homes and companies. On the track there are factories of companies that have even forty or fifty employees. From this point of view, the work risks being very impactful. And it also has an impact from an environmental point of view. What we are arguing instead is that this infrastructure could seize an opportunity ».
What occasion?
«There is a link road already built in the Pescara-Rome direction, which, before arriving at the Brecciarola station, goes towards the Abruzzo interport. You could double that shoulder strap and complete a ring that would come out of Manoppello. This would also allow for an enhancement of the interport which would have access in both directions, both towards Rome and towards Pescara ”.
So, in short, would we no longer pass into inhabited centers?
“We are talking about interventions on undeveloped land. As early as 2007 there was a study evaluating this solution. It would be a matter of moving the route by one hundred meters ».
Then there is the question of San Giovanni Teatino. Does it also pass in the city center there?
“The solution in that case, but it is a hypothesis, would be the burying of the trafficking”.
Listen, the Roma-Pescara is a work included in the Pnrr. It must therefore be completed by 2026. Isn’t there a risk that these variants will lengthen the times?
«We will be at the side of the institutions so that the times are respected. We would like to avoid committees, with appeals upon appeals ”.
Are you afraid that a No-Tav movement will be born on this matter?
“The risk is there, and that is what we must not allow. Precisely because we are aware that this work is strategic for the nation, it is strategic for Central Italy, it is strategic for the Region but it is even more strategic for the local communities. Where these infrastructures are, the economy grows. This is why we do not want this funding to be slowed down or diverted ».
