RTL Today – This Saturday in Luxembourg: Two demonstrations at Glacis, strong police presence
New demonstrations against health measures are carried out this Saturday from 2 p.m. in the capital. Both the authorities and the organizers hope to avoid the excesses of recent weeks.
So far, shortly after 2 p.m., a little over a hundred people have gathered near the Glacis, inside the perimeter reserved for them, therefore completely legally.
According to several sources on site, the city center is monitored by the police, who are present in large numbers, in particular with officers placed at each strategic crossroads in the capital.
The police also called for reinforcements on the Schuman roundabout.
BACK ON LAST SATURDAY’S EVENTS
About thirty arrests, demonstrators pinned down by police roadblocks, acts of “rebellions or throwing pyrotechnic devices at police officers“… Last Saturday, during demonstrations that gathered nearly 350 people against sanitary measures, several overflows have been reported.
A scenario that the competent authorities will avoid this Saturday January 22 at 2 p.m., the time at which the new demonstrations are applied and authorized in Luxembourg. Because this time, the municipality asks the participants to respect the zoning provided for this purpose. The demonstrators are therefore called upon to no longer begin their action from Luxembourg station, as the previous weekend, and to respect the imposed corridor between the Glacis and the Place de l’Europe.
“COME WITH A POSITIVE MINDSET”
In a press release issued on Friday, organizers of the demonstration “for the free choice of vaccine, for the freedom of expression and for the right to demonstrate in a decent perimeter“deplore in turn that”The demonstration of last January 15 remains for many of us a traumatic event. We know many of you have suffered physical or emotional wounds, and we are all still shocked at how the manifestation happened.“
So they give the consignment next: “the parking of demonstrators’ vehicles is planned at Parking Glacis or another car park in the City of Luxembourg. Preferably go on foot or by transport to the starting point, be careful not to come in groups to avoid any confusion.” “The route, nearly 1.3 kilometers, will start from Glacis, then continue on boulevard Robert -Schuman, Grande-Duchesse Charlotte red bridge, avenue JF Kennedy, and will end at Place d’Europe (Philarmonie).“
The organizers finally ask”any participant to come with the good mood, a positive and non-judgmental mentality.“
