Throughout the month of February, the ESS (Social and Solidarity Economy) pop-up shop at 16 rue Jeanne d’Arc is occupied by the association Les Tatas Fripées. A stay in the form of a foretaste of the cultural third place that it plans to anchor further east in the city center.
Associations, companies, collectives of artists, cooperatives… The actors of the ESS watch over and look alike in the ephemeral shop near the metro station Théâtre des Arts: they have in common to place the human being at the heart of their operation .
The City makes this room available to them to accompany them, promote them to the general public, support them by allowing them to test their activity. She entrusts the keys of the house to the association Les Tatas Fripées for the month of February.
Les Tatas Fripées, which is one of the 6 winners of the 13th Créactif de la Métropole competition, is a future social, creative and cultural third place dedicated to combining four poles:
- A café, a link-generating space offering a multitude of local seasonal products on a short circuit, with a small à la carte catering offer. Among the partners, the Normands Torréfacteurs, the Herboristerie de Rouen, Nomank (organic herbal teas) or the Spore brewery.
- A resource centre, to participate in the democratization of the second-hand world, by upgrading textiles and furniture.
- A multicultural program accessible to all (free price), co-constructed with the users of the café, which revolves around a stage, temporary exhibitions, learning workshops (the basics of gardening, vermicomposting, the practice of tapestry…).
- An accorderie, a system for exchanging services and knowledge; This concept born in Quebec is close to the neighborhood concierge: it is a question of weaving a network of mutual aid on the territory by developing actions of intergenerational and inclusive solidarity. In partnership with Rouen Seniors, SangRancune76, Cité Mômes or Asar (Association for the homeless in Rouen).
A place dedicated to the link
The Tatas Fripées are worn by two Rouennaises from the Pays de Caux, Yvetot precisely. There is Camille Berthelot (on the left in the photo), 33 years old, a nurse by training: this keen on second-hand clothes and the restoration of objects has experienced recovery through the creation of a traveling second-hand clothing store in a rural environment in the South.
And there is Pauline (on the right in the photo), 29 years old, ex-professional photographer around Rouen: she studied cultural management, the art market and the management of cultural projects in Paris. His experience as a volunteer at the Tep (Terre d’Ecologie Populaire) Ménilmontant was decisive in his career.
“To raise awareness of other ways of consuming and to play a role in the ecological transition, and to meet the need for social ties among the inhabitants, we want to set up our resource center in a historic district to the east of the city center, Saint-Marc, at Croix-de-Pierre or Saint-Nicaise, announces the duo. We are looking for a room of 100 to 150 m2, with the aim of opening during the year.”
For now, Les Tatas Fripées are setting up their nest at 16 rue Jeanne d’Arc, open Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., from February 2 to 27. You will find second-hand clothes and furniture there, as well as workshops (initiation to sewing, digital approval, eco-responsible uses). Camille and Pauline see this visit to the ESS shop as “a little teasing”. The volunteers who follow, from 12 to 79 years old, are eager to get there.
