In Metz, the Frontier House is growing

Sugar Mizzy January 18, 2022

Open at Metz station for eight months, the space dedicated to commuters working in the Grand Duchy will occupy larger premises from next April.

Advice

Patrick JACQUEMOT

Open at Metz station for eight months, the space dedicated to commuters working in the Grand Duchy will occupy larger premises from next April.

2022 marks the 70th anniversary of the twinning between the cities of Luxembourg and Metz. And no question for the Moselle city and its metropolis not to mark the occasion. “In particular, we are going to organize three weeks of demonstrations, from June 23 to July 14 (stack between the two national holidays of the Grand Duchy and France”, rejoices in advance Amandine Laveau-Zimmerlé. And the municipal and metropolitan councilor for relations international organizations to announce already, for example, that for this event baptized Moien Metz, hello Lëtzebuerg a market for cross-border commuters will be organized on place de la République on the Messin side, but also in Esch and Luxembourg.

The approximately 10,000 cross-border commuters from Metz and its agglomeration now have an information point at the station. A structure that is already just waiting to grow.

But at the start of the year, it is above all the move (and expansion) of the House of Luxembourg which mobilizes the elected official and her teams. While the structure opened its doors last May, it is already cramped in the premises which had initially been chosen to accommodate it at Metz station, a strategic point for attracting commuters. “From the inauguration, we knew it could be right. But in view of the success met, there is no longer any doubt: we needed more space and more places for confidential exchanges. This will be chosen done as of April 2022.

Thus, the House of Luxembourg will take up its new quarters a few dozen meters from its current site. Still at Metz station, but just opposite the SNCF ticket offices. “For these first months of activity, the House has already conducted 150 telephone interviews, answered hundreds of emails and organized 350 physical meetings, so there is a real expectation, we had to improve ourselves.” The personnel dedicated to the service will also go from part-time to full-time in March.

Also in the future, exchanges will be able to take place by video, and at times more suited to the pace of life of cross-border workers. “This can be done during the lunch break or during a break in his working day at home…”

A bigger frame

From the spring, the Maison du Luxembourg will offer a larger environment (50 m2) and better suited to users looking for information on taxes, social allowances, the pension scheme or back-to-school allowances and other scholarships. ‘studies. “We maintain the services of the Community Center in the same premises. This proximity is useful, because to complete certain files, there is sometimes a need for administrative documents that this structure can produce quickly. So we really established the efficiency!”

Moreover, the House is not a municipal service but a metropolitan one, hotlines in other municipalities should not be long in coming. The first will take place, each week, in Montigny-les-Metz (“where it will be the first France service point with a vocation extended to border issues which will open to the region”). Woippy/La Maxe should follow next. “Knowing that we have also thought about improving the issues of mobility, teleworking, taxation but also childcare services in connection with the daily lives of these thousands of commuters who live in our territory and work beyond. of the border”, ended Amandine Laveau-Zimmerlé.
