Swiss temporarily discontinues the route between Zurich and Dresden
From January 16, the Swiss will stop the route between Zurich and Dresden for around a month. The airline cites excessive demand on this route as the reason for the suspension.
Long faces at Dresden Airport. Both Swiss and Lufthansa are reducing the flight offer in the direction of Dresden. The demand does not allow the creation of the route between the hub of Switzerland and the state capital of Saxony, such as Aviation.direct reported.
Return planned for mid-February
From January 16, Swiss will stop all flights between Zurich and Dresden. Luckily not forever, just temporarily. The airline is currently planning to suspend flights until February 18, around a month. The Swiss cites the extremely low demand on the route between the Swiss hub and Elbstadt as the reason for the suspension of the flights. But not only Swiss is reducing its range of flights at Dresden Airport, which is located around the north of the city, in the Klotzsche district. Lufthansa is also reducing the frequencies to Dresden – but is not completely discontinuing the flights.
Lufthansa currently flies up to three times a day from Frankfurt to Dresden. Both an Airbus A319 and a CRJ-900 are used here. The airline even flies twice a day from Munich to Dresden, but only with a CRJ-900. The Swiss, on the other hand, have even used three different types of aircraft on the short flights to Dresden in the past few days. In addition to the Airbus A220-100, the Airbus A220-300 and the A320, the larger Airbus A321 was also used. It is not yet known which aircraft Swiss will use to fly to Dresden in the future.
Conclusion on the temporary suspension of Zurich-Dresden flights
Swiss is suspending flights to Dresden for around a month. The reason given by the airline was an unexpected ticket demand. Nevertheless, Swiss recently flew to Dresden with an Airbus A321. Unusual for a route that is not in high demand. It remains to be hoped for Dresden Airport that the airline will return to Dresden as planned in mid-February.
