San Marino. A letter from a teacher: “Useless and shameful apartheid of students”
“The useless and shameful apartheid of non-aligned students”.
Thus began a reflection of a San Marino teacher, Angela Maria Morotti, on the topic of Covid prevention measures in schools.
“In these days the delirium has broken out in school because of a ghost ISS document. Why ghost? This would be a new ISS document (for symptomatic / positive case management in the school environment) that they have begun to apply but which has never been sent to either the students’ families or teachers.
I wonder if this way of doing is to be considered correct in a state of law.
The Covid Center is phoning unvaccinated teachers and students to put them in real, and non-trust, quarantine as soon as there is only one positive pupil in the class even if there has not been close contact. This document is so ghostly that it is not known to which school order it applies and in what way, in fact we have already seen different procedures for the same cases.
In recent years we have asked our students to stay spaced out in the classroom, to wear masks (among other things, the FFP2) and is all this still not enough? No, it is not enough for the ISS, now we close them at home in isolation for 10 days to do the DAD because they are not vaccinated. It is shameful, as a teacher I categorically reject this treatment and differentiation which seriously undermines the right to education.
As a teacher I am aware of how deleterious DAD has been, it has caused gaps, reduced programs, interruption of professional workshops, school dropout.
All this management is putting a strain on the physical health of all young people, psychological discomfort, psychic discomfort, self-harm. All this necessitated the introduction of a Psychologist Listening Center in schools. However, we cannot only intervene on the effects without questioning ourselves on political responsibilities.
I wonder how the doctors, who drafted this document, do not think of our children and how can the Secretariat for Education delegate to the ISS these choices that are up to her only because we are talking about serious school disruptions due to the absence of teachers and of serious problems of inclusion of our students by separating them and isolating a category of children. Fortunately, my personal experience allows me to say that social division is present above all among adults and not among students who remain united and in solidarity. They teach me a lot.
Ensuring young people a harmonious growth within social formations and free participation in school activities should be at the top of the government’s concerns. Unfortunately we are witnessing the opposite. Political choices are further affecting the psycho-physical balance of all children. They are our children, pupils, students, grandchildren and only the choices we make with love for them will allow them a peaceful and complete development “.
