In Toulouse, historic mobilization of teachers against the management of Covid-19 at school
“In the first degree, the mobilization is historic. About 80% of teachers are on strike “, declares Charlotte andrieu, co-secretary of SNUipp FSU 31, contacted by The Independent Opinion. More than one in two schools is closed in Haute-Garonne. The movement is widely followed nationwide with the support of management and inspection unions and the Federation of Parents’ Councils (FCPE).
This morning, a General Assembly of primary staff was held in front of the Toulouse school of Saint-Sernin. An event starting from Arnaud Bernard district, at 2 p.m., with an arrival at the Monuments aux Combattants is also planned.
National consensus
“We haven’t seen this since December 5, 2019 with the mobilization on pensions… The first degree is neglected and underinvested: we will seek to replace specialized teachers to take care of students in difficulty, we also require medical personnel such as nurses, psychologists … “, confides Charlotte Andrieu.

In secondary education, mobilization is also at its highest. At present, the strike rate in middle and high schools is not yet known, but the SNES-FSU Toulouse union assures The Independent Opinion that “the strike is clearly majority in the second degree “.
Untenable health protocol
“Teachers can no longer endure changing protocols which are always very heavy for students and educational teams”, deplores Charlotte Andrieu. The relaxations of the protocol announced Monday, January 10 by the Prime Minister, Jean Castex, did not change the position, according to the co-secretary of the SNUipp FSU 31

“The question is not allowed” with the possibility of using three self-tests, explains Charlotte Andrieu. Difficulties in obtaining self-tests in pharmacies make teachers, but also parents fearful of persistent obstacles in complying with the protocol, and the constraint of nasopharyngeal tests, particularly painful for the youngest, “continues to weigh on children.”
Maintaining the openness of establishments
The anger that motivates the call for mobilization goes beyond health issues. Teachers join the Minister of National Education on the need to keep schools open, in the interest of the students. “But the doors to school are not enough”, underlines Charlotte Andrieu, denouncing the current situation in which classes are half empty and children, regularly absent, open in their learning.
We are no longer able to teach now. The protocols are untenable in the schools, we cannot ensure the pedagogy. We need the means, both human and protective, so that schools can remain open and that teaching can take place. We are not a day care center. ”
