Prague 6 will announce a competition for a new logo, which will replace the current one from 2005
The winning design should be known in June this year. It has been using the current Prague 6 logo since 2005 and, according to the city district, it is no longer suitable. The spokesman of Prague 6, Jiří Hannich, informed ČTK today.
“The design competition should pave the way for building a visual identity that will authentically reflect the appearance of Prague’s largest city district – it will be modern, timeless, sophisticated and open to the world. The new unified graphic design will then gradually be reflected in the overall visual communication of Prague 6, “said the city district.
According to Hannich, the specific assignment of the two-round design competition will begin in January. The first round of the competition will be announced in mid-April. Five competitors will advance to the second round of the competition. The winner will be chosen by a jury in June, in which, according to the town hall spokesman, experts and representatives of the city district from a number of coalitions and the opposition will sit down. Czechdesign will take part in organizing the competition for the new visual identity of the sixth district. She had organized a similar competition for Prague 3 before.
According to Hannich, Prague 6 was the first part of Prague to publish its own logo. In 2005, it was designed by Michal Kopecký, who worked with basic geometric shapes, a circle and a square. According to representatives of the town hall, Kopecký’s designed logo was to refer to the constructivist and functionalist architecture of the 1930s, which can be found in Prague 6. After 17 years, however, the current logo no longer corresponds to the contemporary visual style of cities, as Prague 6 has now stated. According to the town hall, it cannot be used on many products due to the impending illegibility.
Prague 6 is one of the largest city districts in Prague. It covers an area of 4,156 hectares and has over 100,000 people. It includes the cadastral areas of Břevnov, Dejvice, Liboc, Ruzyně, Střešovice, Veleslavín, Vokovice, part of Bubeneč and Hradčany. The town hall of the sixth district is headed by Mayor Ondřej Kolář (TOP 09). The coalition formed TOP 09, KDU-ČSL, ODS and STAN. The Pirates, YES and the Greens are in opposition.
