Zajíčková (ODS): Prague 5 will again significantly support schools and kindergartens this year. Less than a quarter of a billion crowns
In addition to the wage costs of running the office, this is the strongest chapter in the budget. The money will go mainly to the modernization of buildings and technical facilities of school facilities. However, the support for education itself is also traditionally high.
“The city district, as the founder of schools and kindergartens, has a key role in their functioning.

I perceive support as a comprehensive service – both for the necessary spatial, material and technical background, such as new classrooms, aids or, for example, kitchens or sports grounds, but also for the educational process. Therefore, to facilitate the work of school principals and teachers themselves, so that they can do as much as possible for the most important, teaching and upbringing of children, “says the mayor of Prague 5 Renáta Zajíčková.
Therefore, the city district makes a significant contribution to supporting the professional development of teachers. Over nine million crowns will be distributed by school facilities to the salaries of pedagogical and especially non-pedagogical staff, which are otherwise difficult for schools and kindergartens, and their role is irreplaceable. Prague 5 has been working part-time for non-teaching staff for the third year in a row.
“It’s money that the directors have at their disposal. And it is up to them whether to strengthen the administration team, the school canteen or the website administration and so on. It’s just where it burns the most and we know from practice that this is an extremely welcome help, which in turn will allow the school to focus on teaching, “calculates Renáta Zajíčková.
“We highly value the financing of a part-time non-teaching worker. We use the money to finance an administrative and technical worker who provides minor repairs and routine maintenance of our historic building and the adjacent area, which would otherwise be very difficult to manage, “adds Lenka Bohuslavová, director of the Hlubočepy Kindergarten.
This year, the city district is investing one hundred million crowns in increasing the capacity of school facilities, reducing the energy intensity of buildings or reconstructions. For example, Weberova Elementary School and Kindergarten are waiting for the start of a comprehensive reconstruction of the pool operation, Grafická Elementary School will expand classrooms for polytechnic teaching and two schools in Barrandov V Remízek and Chaplin Square are preparing a complete reconstruction of the kitchen and its facilities.
“Most of our investments go to education. Only now we have planned projects for a total amount of almost 420 million CZK, which are already running this year. And I’m not talking about the construction of new schools in Prague 5, which we are preparing and are negotiating financing with the capital city of Prague, “adds Finance Councilor Jan Kavalírek.
In the coming years, the construction of four new school buildings awaits the city district. As part of the Smíchov City project, in Košíře, Barrandov and Waltrovka, where the estimated investments will reach the level of three billion crowns.
