The Matica Hrvatska institution is initiating the drafting of the Bill on the Croatian Language
ZAGREB, January 10, 2022 – On Monday, the President of Matica hrvatska Miro Gavran presented the program for marking the 180th anniversary of this cultural institution and announced the drafting of the Croatian Language Act.
“We have formed a working group to draft the Croatian Language Act,” Gavran told a news conference, adding that the group also included Croatian Academy scholarship holders August Kovacec, Stjepan Damjanovic, Mislav Jezic and linguists Tomislav Stojanov and Mario Grcevic. .
He emphasized that the draft law, in addition to five renowned linguists, will be prepared by three lawyers, and will be co-signed by Croatian writers, after which it will be sent to the Croatian Parliament.
He announced that Matica hrvatska’s publications will in future be sent to embassies and departments for the Croatian language around the world.
