The inspection found a problem with instant soups, missing radiation information
Last year, the State Agricultural and Food Inspection Authority (CAFIA) found out an inspection in which producers checked whether they had informed the packaging of food about the use of ionizing radiation. The food inspection showed a breach in four batches of imported instant soups.
During the inspection, inspectors are recommended for foods for which the exposure information was not stated on the packaging, and these were previously problematic products. These were mainly spices, herbal teas, instant soups containing a bag of spices, dried garlic, dried mushrooms and food supplements. The sampling point was wholesale.
“Out of the total number of 37 samples taken, the analysis showed treatment with ionizing radiation without providing the required information on the packaging of four samples,” CAFIA spokesman Pavel Kopřiva informed, adding that the CAFIA initiated administrative proceedings for imposing fines with the inspected sellers.

Some Member States of the European Union still take food irradiation as an open topic and some people are concerned about these technologies. This created a requirement that such raw materials and foods should always be labeled so that consumers could choose according to their preferences.
