Near Toulouse, students with Covid contact cases “parked” in the courtyard, the director defends herself against any mistreatment
A parent of a student at a school in Fonsorbes, near Toulouse, denounces “abuse” of certain children. These, Covid-19 contact cases, were set aside in the courtyard, in a perimeter delimited by plots. The director met before a strict sanitary protocol, very complicated to apply.
The health protocol in primary schools obliges school administrators to separate Covid 19 contact cases from other students. Sometimes in incredible conditions.
This is what happened last Friday in a school in Fonsorbes, near Toulouse.
As part of the health protocol, students must present their D + 2 certificate to return to school. All those who did not have it did not return to class, tell a parent of a student at “La Dépêche”. They were picked up by the director who called the parents to come and pick them up.
Placed behind blocks, in a space “not large enough to run”, with prohibition to approach other students
Two of these children were still there on the meridian break. After eating, they were “parked” behind plots in an area “not large enough to run”, according to the testimony, with no approach to other students.
In the afternoon, five children, whose parents could not come immediately, who found themselves in turn, behind blocks, after having lunched away.
“There is a protocol to apply, but our children are not cattle (…) How long will this last?
“Of course, there is a protocol to apply, but our children are not cattle, reacts the student’s parent to” La Dépêche “. They are hardly in contact, they are not lepers either! when will it last? Where have benevolence and humanity gone? What do we do with children’s rights? With their psychological health? “
The director of the school explains the very tense situation in the school from a health point of view, in an e-mail sent to all parents this Sunday, January 9, that “La Dépêche” was able to obtain attorney.
Last Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, the cascade of contaminations and contact cases grew strong
She explains that from the start of the school year, around twenty students were absent because they were positive for Covid. Another ten students were absent because of “contact cases” of people met during the holidays.
Then everything accelerated. “Wednesday, a positive case in a class of CM2, Thursday, a positive case in a class of CE1 and a positive case in a class of CE2. Friday, a positive case in a class of CP and a positive case in a class of CM2 “, details the director.
“This forces us to quickly contact all families to test the children (day D, D + 2 and D + 4) and to carry out checks when returning to class. This monopolizes us enormously. The departures and returns of pupils intersect, our vigilance is necessary. “
The director: “I hear the anger of some parents, but I also sincerely those who tell us their support on a daily basis”
“I try to the extent of my possibilities to explain, communicate and organize what can be, but the task is difficult,” she explains again.
I hear the anger of some parents at the difficulties encountered when their child has to be looked after at home, or when respecting the protocol requires adaptation and energy. But I am also sincerely to all those who support us on a daily basis in carrying out missions which have greatly changed. “
Covid at school: the protocol to follow
The Toulouse academy rectorate specifies that the occurrence of a confirmed case among the students results in “the eviction of the confirmed case, the implementation of the screening protocol with the suspension of the face-to-face reception of other students, in waiting for a test to be carried out “.
Students in the class who meet the conditions below can continue the face-to-face learning, subject to:
• present a negative antigen or RT-PCR result (or a certificate of recovery for students who contracted covid in the previous two months);
• certification on honor of the completion of two negative self-tests on D2 and D4 from the first test.
Students who have contracted Covid-19 for less than two months are not subject to the obligation of screening or quarantine.
