The United States reiterates its support for Lithuania in its conflict with China

The administration of US President Joe Biden on Friday reiterated his support for the European Union and Lithuania’s ongoing dispute with China, which is accused of blocking the export of Lithuanian and Lithuanian-related goods to Beijing over Vilnius’ diplomatic relations with Taiwan.
Katherine Tai, a U.S. trade representative, spoke to European Commission Vice President Valdis Dombrovskis on Friday and said the United States had strong support for the EU and Lithuania in the face of economic pressure from the People’s Republic of China (PRC), the office said in a statement.
Lithuania was angry with China for allowing a Taiwanese representative office to open in Vilnius in July.
Beijing does not lose its sovereignty and considers itself its food-producing territory and will ever recover from it if necessary.
After the opening of the Taiwanese mission, China restricted diplomatic and economic relations with Lithuania in response.
The ambassador stressed the importance of working with the European Union and its member states to repel coercive diplomatic and economic behavior in various ways, including the US-EU Trade and Technology Council, writes K. Tai’s office.

At a meeting on Wednesday, the US Secretary of State and the German Foreign Minister assured that the state would support Lithuania after receiving pressure from China over the opening of a representative office in Taiwan.
A statement issued after the meeting between Antony Blinken, the US secretary of state, and Annalena Baerbock, the German foreign minister, said the states were immediately concerned about the Chinese government’s attempt to intimidate Lithuania.
China is pushing European and American companies to stop producing products with Lithuanian-made components or risk losing access to the Chinese market. And all this because Lithuania has decided to expand cooperation with Taiwan, says A. Blinken.
According to US and German politicians, it is not only about Lithuania, but also about the fact that each country in the world should have the opportunity to determine its own foreign policy without coercion.
The U.S., along with its allies and partners, including Germany, will work to counter such intimidation of China by strengthening its economic resilience, steering supply chains, and combating increasing economic anticipation. We will continue to work together to combat the Chinese government’s violent violations of human rights and to speak out about universal human rights around the world, Mr Blinken said at a news conference.
