Handball EM: The national coach of the German team
The Icelandic handball coach Alfred Gislason replaced Christian Prokop as coach of the national team in 2020. Gislason previously trained with THW Kiel and played in the German handball league for many years. With TUSEM Essen he won the German championship twice and also played for the Icelandic national team, in which he scored 542 goals for Iceland in 190 games.

At the beginning of the 90s he ended his professional career and coached the Icelandic club KA Akureyri until 1997 and made a short-term move to VfL / BHW Hameln and thus to the 1st German Bundesliga. In addition to his duties as coach of VfL Gummersbach, Gislason also worked for the responsible Icelandic national team from 2006 to 2008. His greatest successes as a coach include six German cup wins, seven German championships and three Champions League titles.
