Gas lanterns broken since November – zappenduster in Neukölln! – BZ Berlin
When it gets dark in Berlin, the lights don’t go on everywhere. More and more often it remains pitch dark in some corners. Also in the Buchsbaumweg in the Neukölln district of Rudow.
Homeowner Peter Ernst is pissed off. “Since November I have already complained in writing four times and repeatedly about the defective gas lamp on my doorstep,” he says. “And now it is missing completely.”
Only the mast is still standing. Another lantern on the street is no longer lit either.
“I’m worried about my neighbors using the sidewalk and having to walk in the dark,” he says. The intersection at the corner of Köpenicker Straße is also poorly lit. “It could be life-threatening for pedestrians,” he says.
The obligation to illuminate public roads is laid down in the Berlin Road Act. This includes around 200,000 electric and around 25,000 gas lights (as of March 2021).
The gas lamp in the street from Peter Ernst is the model BAMAG U7. Of these top-mounted gas lights, 21,940 are still on the streets of Berlin. Most have already been converted to modern LED lighting. Not yet the lanterns in the box tree path.
When asked by BZ, spokeswoman Nadine Kühne from Stromnetz Berlin said: “The lanterns with the numbers 31 and 33 were dismantled for safety reasons. During the check, a minimal gas leak was found. “
A provisional solution had not been set up because the conversion project for this area from gas to electric was planned for the beginning of 2022. “But according to the Senate, it won’t start until the middle of the year,” said the spokeswoman. A repair would still not have paid off.
Now it is checked whether a temporary solution is available for the removed lights for short-term use. Until then it will be dark a little longer in Rudow.
