Annecy bans nitrous oxide or “laughing gas”
Too many young consumers, too much waste … this Thursday, December 6, the town hall of Annecy announced that it prohibited the sale, consumption and possession on public roads of nitrous oxide cartridges. This measure targets minors. The municipal decree has been applied since January 1 and was issued for a period of one year.
Nitrous oxide or “laughing gas” can be found in particular in food siphon cartridges. “It is used in a roundabout way for its euphoric properties”, indicates in a press release the Annecy town hall. Pollution
According to the city of Annecy, the increase in consumption of “proto” is also a source of pollution. “The police as well as the agents of the urban cleanliness detected an excessive consumption of this gas on the public highway. Many cartridges are found there abandoned”, explains the municipality.

The use of cartridges for laughing gas purposes, the deposit and abandonment of cartridges or other receptacles containing this type of gas in public spaces, for minors as for adults, are prohibited. The decree also stipulates that the sale or free offer of nitrous oxide in all shops to minors under the age of 18 is prohibited.
