Toulouse. Fernande Tixier receives a medal for her 100th birthday
This Tuesday, January 4, the atmosphere was at the festivities at the Ehpad Orpea-Crampel in Rangueil, on the occasion of Fernande Tixier’s centenary, surrounded by other residents, staff and relatives.
Cakes, candles, music… all the elements were there for this exceptional day. Born in Albefeuille Lagarde (Tarn-et-Garonne) on January 1, 1922, Fernande was the eldest of two siblings. Although marked by the war and the death of her father at the age of 11, the centenarian says she had a happy childhood: “My mother spoke a lot about her childhood and her parents. Even though she grew up in poverty and the war, she keeps very good memories of it, ”confides her only daughter Mady. Married to a soldier met in Montauban at the end of World War II, Fernande lived in Algeria for ten years. A very significant period for her daughter, born in 1949: “My childhood in Algeria was very happy, it was freedom. We lived with each other”. Long a housewife but a seamstress by training, Fernande began working in 1970 following the death of her husband. A complicated moment which only reinforced his strong desire to take a bite out of life. Good living, optimistic and benevolent, Fernande has been able, throughout her life, to mark certain spirits. Something to make her grandson Anthony proud, who comes regularly from Morocco to visit her: “Grandma has always been there for others, when she had problems, she did not talk about them and always went forward.” Fernande has been a resident of the establishment since September 2018. Until recently, her days were devoted to her favorite hobby: reading. Victim of a brain accident in 2020, she continues to participate in the moments of sharing that animate the nursing home, in joy and good humor. The anniversary afternoon ended with the presentation of a municipal medal for the event.
