Spanish mother freed from anti-vaccines who hid her children in Portugal
This Thursday, the Spanish mother who “kidnapped” her two underage children for refusing to vaccinate them against covid-19 was released on probation. The mother had turned herself in on Wednesday in a court in Seville, along with the children, after having taken refuge with them in Portugal.
After appearing before a judge at Seville’s Court of Instruction No. 2, Cristina Mariscal Copano was released on bail. The court also applied a precautionary measure for the removal of the two children, with whom they will also not be able to communicate, according to the Spanish press.
Cristina Copano was arrested on Wednesday after appearing in court with Hugo, 12, and Diego, 14. She is now accused of alleged parental abduction of her two children, who had not been seen since 16 December. The woman had taken refuge with the children in Portugal, in the Algarve city of Aljezur.
According to the lawyer, the objective of his client was to defend the two minors, meanwhile handed over to their father, “from the possible serious effects” of the vaccines. Remember that Cristina Copano is against vaccination against covid-19, but also against tetanus or rubella.
The parents of the two children differed regarding the inoculation of the children against a covid-19. However, the court had agreed with the father, who was in favor of vaccination. Although subject to appeal, this decision did not prevent, at any time, the parent from taking the children to be inoculated against SARS-CoV-2 while the children remained with it.
Fearing that this was the case, Cristina escaped, in November, with her children to an uncertain part, not handing them over to their father, as agreed in a regime of shared custody. Earlier, he had tried to revoke joint custody in order to have complete control over the decision to vaccinate his children against covid-19, but without success.
After spending almost two months without seeing his children, the father had advanced in December with a complaint of kidnapping with the Guardia Civil de Mairena del Aljarafee, in Seville. From then on, the mother started to prevent full communication between father and children, something that happened until Wednesday, when she decided to hand them over.
