Index – Economy – Péter Szijjártó: Hungary broke two investment records last year
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade explained in an entry that a total of HUF 186 billion, or 5.3 billion, of investment had been made in Hungary through the investment incentive scheme, which, according to the head of the ministry, had never been seen before.
Péter Szijjártó added that the government provided HUF 270 billion (approximately EUR 766 million) in support of these investments.
The politician emphasized that the record for the largest greenfield investment in Hungary so far had also been broken, as SK Innovation in Korea was building an electric battery plant in Iváncsa for HUF 680 billion.
According to the foreign minister, there was particularly fierce competition for large investments last year, as “every national economy was thirsting for good news and job creation due to the economic crisis caused by the pandemic”.
It is also noteworthy in this respect that a decision was made last year on eight investments worth 100 million euros: Eco Pro, also behind Korea, took second place behind SK Innovation in Korea, and Sisecam, the largest domestic Turkish investor of all time, came in third.
