Garbage collectors’ strike in Toulouse: negotiations fail, the conflict could harden
Could a solution be found in view of the positions of each diametrically opposed? No. After three hours of discussions, the first negotiations since December 21 between Toulouse Métropole and its garbage collectors were unsurprisingly unsuccessful. The agents of the collection, carried by their Intersyndicale, claim 34 days of compensation in exchange for the abandonment of the “finished party”, a tradition of returning home once their tour is over. Too much for Toulouse Métropole which offered this Wednesday 9 days of “subjection” in exchange for the increase in working time.
No progress
Neither the piles of trash accumulate in the streets of the Metropolis, nor the proximity of the wishes to the press of Jean-Luc Moudenc (this Thursday) will have changed the situation. Vincent Terrail-Novès, vice-president in charge of this file, has visibly opted for firmness despite a few openings distilled through the press – he hinted at Monday a possible middle ground around “15 to 20 days of subjection “on our antenna.
“Ridiculous” proposals from the community according to the Intersyndicale
“The discussions are a total failure” auto “the administration made ridiculous proposals“blurted out at the end of the meeting Benoit Fontanilles, spokesperson for the Intersyndicale. “Where the garbage collectors will lose the equivalent of 70 days a year with the finished job, the administration royally offers 9” explained the trade unionist for whom the pursuit of the movement began on December 15 “seems obvious” , “there will be a hardening of the base” he promised.
Jean-Luc Moudenc as justice of the peace on Thursday?
If the garbage collectors will raise the tone, it could go as far as blocking deposits or snail operations, or even waste deposited in a few strategic places … Can Jean-Luc Moudenc speak this Thursday to ease tensions? ? For the moment, the mayor of Toulouse and the president of the Metropolis was careful not to speak on this sensitive issue, while the unions called at the end of December to arbitrate the negotiations. Currently Toulouse and its surroundings, Colomiers and the Union, are incompletely cleaned by contractual agents of the collection and private companies.
