Florence focuses on soft mobility, with over a kilometer of new ones arriving
Via Toselli
This is the connection between two tracks whose project has already been approved by the council, that is the one that starts in viale Belfiore, develops on via delle Porte Nuove and via Toselli and then ends at the intersection with via Doni and the one on viale Redi, in the section between piazza Puccini and via Mariti. The project involves the construction of a cycle path on a reserved lane, a two-way street, on the sidewalk on the side of the odd house numbers in the section between via Doni and viale Redi. The track will develop for a total length of approximately 450 meters alongside the pedestrian path. Expected widening of the sidewalk which, at the end of the works, will have a width of 4 meters of which 1.50 meters for the pedestrian path and 2.50 meters for the cycle lanes. The two paths will be distinguished both by the different color of the pavement thanks to the presence of the horizontal signs of the cycle path. In order to always keep the two paths separate, pedestrian and cycle path, at the intersections regulated by traffic lights (via Doni, via Veracini), sidewalk extensions will be made to allow the creation of cycle crossings alongside the existing pedestrian ones. At the intersections with via Boccherini and with viale Redi, in addition to widening the sidewalk, the construction of new cycle and pedestrian crossings not regulated by traffic lights is planned; on viale Redi, moreover, these crossings will be protected with central life-saving islands. At all pedestrian crossings, both new and existing, tiles from the Loges Vet Evolution system will be laid to signal their presence to blind pedestrians. As for the parking stalls, those present on the odd street number side due to the widening of the sidewalk will simply be moved towards the center of the street and there will be no substantial changes in the number of spaces for cars while those for scooters and motorcycles will be increased. .
Via Pio Fedi
The intervention in via Pio Fedi is divided into two sections:
• section via dell’Argingrosso-via Massa
Here a new protected cycle path will be created which, through via Carrara, will function as a link between the existing cycle paths on via Massa, via Modigliani and in the subsequent section of via Pio Fedi with the Argingrosso Park and with the Cascine Park through a new cycle-pedestrian walkway under construction. The construction of the track in its own seat protected by a curb on the side of the even house numbers provides for the establishment of the one-way street of the section of Via Pio Fedi concerned, thus ensuring the maintenance of the parking on both sides and at the same time improving road safety. The track, 2.50 meters wide, will extend over 280 meters starting from via dell’Argingrosso, continuing on the cross road of the same street and, thanks to a new double cycle and pedestrian crossing, will lead to via Pio Fedi on the side of the equal numbers; from this point on the cycle path continue until you reach the intersection with via Massa, on which a new traffic light cycle path will be created, in the existing pedestrian one. A new traffic light pedestrian crossing is planned on via Pio Fedi, before the intersection with via Massa-via Modigliani. Here too, in correspondence with all pedestrian crossings, both new and existing, the tiles of the Loges Vet Evolution system will be laid to signal their presence to blind pedestrians.
• section via Massa-via Canova
This is the adaptation of the existing cycle path that will connect on via Canova to the new cycle path in the executive planning phase in the section via Pio Fedi-via Signorelli. Connections to the via Massa and via Modigliani slopes are also planned; the intersection via Pio Fedi-via Massa-via Modigliani will also be redesigned. The existing cycle path has a total length of about 300 meters, is connected on one side to the cycle path present on via Massa and via Modigliani, on the other it ends near the intersection with via Canova. The track has its own seat in the carriageway and is separated from the vehicular lanes by pedestrian elements which, protruding at handlebar height, effectively reduce the useful section for bicycles. The intervention therefore consists in the removal of these elements and their arrangement with the classic concrete separation curb. No variation for parking on the side of odd house numbers while the space on the carriageway will be reduced. The project also provides for the resurfacing of the sidewalk adjacent to the cycle path and the remaking of all the horizontal markings, both on the track and on the vehicle lanes. Great attention is paid to the connections with the other cycle paths: the connection with the cycle path of via Massa will be made by widening the existing sidewalk in such a way as to create a mixed pedestrian cycle path; the connection with the cycle path of via Modigliani will be obtained by rectifying the final section on the sidewalk and creating a traffic lighted cycle crossing on via Pio Fedi alongside the existing pedestrian one which will be slightly shifted. Also planned is the adaptation of the traffic light system at the intersection of via Fedi, via Massa and via Modigliani in order to create the new cycle path.
