Christmas market: three quarters fewer visitors – salzburg.ORF.at
business
So far this winter, 300,000 people have visited the Christmas market in Salzburg’s old town on Dom and Residenzplatz. That is 75 percent less than in the years before Corona.
According to the organizer, the Christmas market was not an economic success, and the costs for the 2-G rule controls were also considerable. The Christmas market is still open until January 9th, and will close again on January 1st next season.
The brief extension of the market is based on the difficult coronavirus situation this year. At the end of November the market opened for a few days, then it soon had to close again because the fourth Austria-wide lockdown began. The Christmas market was completely closed for three weeks. On December 12th, the stallholders are allowed to sell their goods again.
Organizer: “No failure”
In view of the current framework conditions, however, the organizers of the Christmas market do not see any failure. On the contrary: It was a great success, as numerous folk-cultural experiences could also be offered. It has been said that there has been a lot of positive feedback from the population.
2-G and FFP2 mask compulsory
The access regulations continue to apply due to the CoV pandemic. Guests of the Salzburg Christmas Market & at defined check-in areas located in front of the entrances must present valid 2-G proof. In return, they receive a bracelet that entitles them to enter. An FFP2 mask is required on the entire area of the Salzburg Christmas Market.
