what results for Monaco?
IMSEE published a report last December 31, devoted to Official Development Assistance.
A member of the UN since 1993, Monaco has been involved in the fight against poverty since the 2000s, thanks to Official Development Assistance (ODA). This financial assistance, in the form of a subsidy and without counterpart, aims to develop several strategic axes in specific countries. In its latest report, IMSEE looked at the period 2018-2020.
Steadily increasing since 2016, ODA reached the sum of 22 million euros in 2020. A high figure, mainly due to the health crisis, which has exacerbated the difficulties of developing countries. Between 2018 and 2020, no less than 58.3 million euros were generated in all, or 500 euros per year and per inhabitant.
In three years, 5.6 million euros of emergency aid were distributed to 96 crises
Objectives 90% achieved
This represents aid for more than 2.4 million people, spread over 11 countries: South Africa, Burundi, Madagascar, Burkina Faso, Mali, Senegal, Niger, Lebanon, Morocco, Mauritania and Tunisia.
This 2018-2020 strategic plan identifies 14 objectives, divided into four areas: health, food security, education and socio-economic integration. These objectives were achieved at 90%.
At the same time, the period faced major crises, such as the Covid-19 pandemic or the explosion in the port of Beirut. In three years, 5.6 million euros of emergency aid were distributed to 96 crises. In 2020, more than 95% of the budget was devoted to the health crisis. An exceptional aid of 4 million euros was also released that same year, to support the valleys affected by storm Alex.
