“We have about 500 special prices and unique documents. You have a special storage mode and are digitized. In addition to the cartographic collection, it has important documents for the beginning of the Bulgarian statehood – the Constitution of Tarnovo, the minutes of the Constituent Assembly, the election of Prince Alexander Battenberg, the so-called. Silver Constitution, the Manifesto of Independence. This was revealed for “The Day Live” by Assoc. Prof. Mihail Gruev, Chairman of the State Archives Agency.
According to him, 94 linear kilometers of documents are stored in the archives. “No one has read them all, but individual facts about individual events and personalities can be changed,” he said.
Assoc. Prof. Gruev emphasized that the agency has a rich collection of geographical historical maps, purchased in 2006 by the collector Dr. Simeon Simov. “He is a Bulgarian emigrant who left Bulgaria in 1957. Apart from being a doctor, he was one of the first gynecologists in Germany to start performing in vitro procedures. He is actively interested in the place of Bulgaria in medieval documents, maps and engravings. He invests his entire fortune in artifacts that remind him of his homeland. They have been digitized and can be seen on the DA Archives website, he said.
According to him, the oldest was made by Ptolemy. And cartographies up to the 16th century are based on its nomenclature.
“In 2015, we received the archive of Zhelyu Zhelev, donated by his daughter. He presents the Transition quite well. We expect the BSP not to provide archives in order to reconstruct an entire era. At this stage, only the UDF has donated archival documents. We would also look for GERB and MRF. Simeon Saxe-Coburg and Anastasia Moser have already donated their archives, “said Assoc. Prof. Gruev.
