Lithuania may become the second EU country to export egg products to the USA
Lithuanian exporters of egg products have received good news – the market of the United States of America may open to them soon.
Lithuania’s application for the export of egg products submitted five years ago has been entered in the US Federal Register of Legislation. It is likely that in two months there will be no obstacles to allow Lithuanian exporters to send Lithuanian egg products to the US, such as egg whites and yolk flour, frozen or dried egg mass, etc.
According to the Minister of Agriculture Kęstutis Navickas, this is one of the most important steps to open the US market for Lithuanian egg products.
“Exports of egg products to the United States would help alleviate the crisis in the country’s poultry sector. “I am glad that the active cooperation between the responsible authorities of both countries, the involvement of the Lithuanian Embassy in the United States and my visit to the United States in October are bearing fruit.”
If the US Food Safety and Health Administration recognizes Lithuania as suitable for exporting egg products to this country, it will become the second EU country after the Netherlands and will receive such permission.
“Only a small formality remains and Lithuanian companies will soon be able to export not only the hitherto harmonized meat product, but also egg products to the US market,” says Mantas Staškevičius, Director of the State and Veterinary Service.
After receiving the permit, it will be possible to export egg products produced in certified Lithuanian companies. It is currently planned to certify one company.
Lithuanian meat processing companies also intend to export to the USA and more meat products – smoked pork and beef ham, sausages and sausages, dumplings with pork – thus taking advantage of the US authorities to expand the list of meat products to Lithuania at the end of October.
