Florence, broken glass and stolen objects: dozens of vandalized cars
A start to the year to forget. For many tourists and Florentines, 2022 did not start on the right foot. Dozens of cars – all of large displacements – targeted by vandals and thieves on the night between 1 and 2 January. The greatest damage was suffered by some families on holiday in Florence and who had parked their car in the Parking La Calza, the one with the entrance in Piazza della Calza and the exit in Piazza Tasso. At least five vehicles from which the windows and mirrors were destroyed and from which bottles of Brunello di Montalcino and Champagne, vests, satellite navigators and other valuables were brought. The vandals-thieves seem to have gone without fail by turning their attention to a Maserati, a Lamborghini, a Mercedes and two SUVs. Now the investigations are underway by the carabinieri – called by the managers of the Serre Torrigiani who have one of their entrances right inside the parking lot – who are buying the images taken by the security cameras.
Other damages were recorded in viale Aleardi, in piazza Tasso, in viale Petrarca and also in via Senese. In short, in a few hours, at least twenty hits could be scored. For months the residents of that area have been subject to a decided intervention by the police. Many complaints have been presented but they are of little use since the list of damaged cars grows from week to week <, say the inhabitants of the neighborhood who have been appealing to the Municipality for some time. Especially after the cases of via Farinata degli Uberti, via Benedetto da Foiano, via Michele di Lando, via Dante da Castiglione, where every week, for at least a couple of months, the greatest number of vandalisms has been recorded.
