Now with 2022 knocking on the door, we give you a summary of the corona outbreak in Norway.
Facts since the outbreak started in Norway:
- 1,305 corona deaths have been reported to the National Institute of Public Health (NIPH). The age group with the most deaths is people who are 80-89 years old, and 55 percent of all deaths are men. FHI emphasizes that it is not always possible to know whether the patient has died of or with covid-19.
- On 27 December 2020, the first coronary vaccine was introduced in Norway. To date, 4,282,767 people have received the first dose, and 3,918,456 have received the second dose.
- 1,528,278 people have received the third vaccine dose, which corresponds to 28.3 percent of the population over the age of 18.
- Five variants of the coronavirus have had outbreaks in Norway. They have been given the names alpha, beta, gamma, delta and omicron. Since August 2021, the delta variant has been dominant in Norway.
- At the time of publication of the previous weekly report from FHI, 37,937 cases of alpha, 664 cases of beta, 16 cases of gamma, 111,514 cases of delta and 8,847 cases of omicron had been found in Norway (both confirmed and probable).
- 393,642 people have been diagnosed with the coronavirus in Norway since February last year, the Infectious Diseases Message System (MSIS) shows on Friday. 9,238,535 tests were performed in the country until Thursday.
- The average age of those who have been diagnosed with infection so far in the pandemic is now 31 years. There are 203,362 men who have been diagnosed with the infection, and 190,262 women. In addition, it is unknown what gender 18 of the infected are.
- The infection number, or R-number, says how many an infected person transmits further. From 6 December 2021, the average R-figure has been 0.95, according to FHI.
- 312 corona patients were hospitalized on Friday. That is 14 fewer than the day before.
- The patients are distributed as follows in the health regions: Health south-east 209, Health west 61, Health Central Norway 22 and Health north 20.
- 79 patients received treatment with a respirator on Friday. The number is unchanged from the day before.
- Until Thursday, a total of 1,437 patients had received treatment with a respirator.
Vaccination
On Thursday, a total of 9,729,501 coronary vaccinations performed were registered in Norway.
Of these, 4,282,767 are the first dose (79.4 per cent of the population), 3,918,456 are the second dose (72.7 per cent of the population) and 1,528,278 are the third dose (28.3 per cent of the population over 18 years of age).
For people over 18 at doses one and two, the proportions are 92.5 and 89, respectively.
The county has given the first dose to the largest proportion of the population over the age of 18, are Trøndelag (93.7 per cent) and Innlandet (93.2 per cent). The lowest proportions are in Troms and Finnmark (90.8 per cent) and Rogaland (90.9 per cent). For the second dose, the counties of Trøndelag (91.3 per cent) and Innlandet (90.6 per cent) are best, and for the third dose, Innlandet (32.7 per cent) and Vestfold and Telemark (31.8 per cent) are best.
There may be delays in registering vaccinations that cause the numbers to change over time.

First dose: 93.2 (298,397), second dose: 90.6 (267,691), third dose: 32.7 (121,169).
The hinterland has a population of 370,994.
Norway started the coronary vaccination on 27 December 2020. The vaccines for Pfizer and Moderna are used today, but you can also apply for the Janssen vaccine. Norway chose to stop all use of the AstraZeneca vaccine in March.
