Prime Minister Janša: This year has once again confirmed the value of people who share the common good in the first place
Dear citizens,
compatriots,
Slovenes at home and abroad,
Another year of many trials and difficult decisions is coming to an end. Times when human health or the existence of a nation are at stake always call for unity. They demand responsibility and solidarity. Without this, there are no victories in the battles that life puts on us. Just as there are no victories and remarkable achievements without hard work and sacrifice.
Although the health crisis has pushed us to our limits, we have achieved many important victories in the year that is coming to an end. Victories that will accompany Slovenia on the path of the largest investment cycle in history. Soon, each community will be able to see the fruits of our common work, as many have already. The budget for the next two years, together with all other acts on long-term investments in health, education and sports, provides funds for the renovation and construction of schools, kindergartens, hospitals, housing, nursing homes, roads and sports facilities, construction and repair of water supply, for flood safety and for many other purposes in an investment amount that was not before or after the independence of Slovenia.
We have one of the fastest growing economies in Europe and the highest employment rate in the history of independent Slovenia or ever, which we can be justifiably proud of. Economic forecasts for the future are also promising. We are also approaching the end of the Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, which was marked by a diverse range of events in Europe and beyond. Despite challenges that were far from trivial, we succeeded.
Thank you to all of you who worked responsibly and tirelessly on behalf of Slovenia, both in the preparations and during the presidency. Thank you to everyone who supported us during this time. During the presidency, we managed to close many files and pave the way for many projects for greater prosperity and security not only in Slovenia but in the entire European Union.
This year has reaffirmed the value of people who share the common good first. At a time of crisis caused by an epidemic that has been going on for almost two years, their work is all the more important. They deserve special thanks and our deep respect. I want all of you who have saved lives in these difficult times, while giving us a sense of security, to know that your work and your efforts are appreciated. Thank you to all of you who have acted responsibly for your own benefit and the well-being of others this year, which is coming to an end.
Above all, I wish you good health and courage in the new year. Continue to believe in yourself and follow your dreams. Even when things are hard and the sky is gray. After night comes the day, and after winter comes spring. Spring is a time of rebirth, new energies, a new page in the book of each individual and the book of Slovenian history. Protect your health and the health of your loved ones during these holidays. Share your hopes and joys of anticipation that next year will be the year of all good and brave people. Our year. Happy New Year!
