Sweden’s Hexicon sets up JV for floating wind in Italy
December 29 (Renewables Now) – The Swedish floating wind specialist Hexicon AB (FRA: 67T) said on Wednesday that they have teamed up with the Italian developer of renewable energy, Avapa Energy, to develop a floating offshore wind power project in Italy.
The companies have formed a 50/50 joint venture (JV) called AvenHexicon SRL. Hexicon will license its patented floating wind technology to JV for use in its projects and by other developers.
The Swedish company said it has been looking for a partner in Italy, which it sees as a key market in Europe because the country is one of the main recipients of the EU’s green agreement and has begun the regulatory changes necessary for the development of offshore wind power. .
According to the announcement, the joint venture’s work will include identifying potential sites for floating wind farms, so that permit processes can be launched as quickly as possible.
“An important part of our business model is to enter new and promising markets as early as possible and to establish both our project development expertise and our technology together with local partners,” says Hexicon’s CEO Marcus Thor.
Hexicon works with several projects around the world and collaborates with companies such as Shell and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP).
