GARD The intercommunalities of the large Avignon living area want more cooperation
The intercommunalities of the large living area of Avignon are initiating a cooperative approach to strengthen the attractiveness of the territory and launch joint projects. And this, in different areas that the inhabitants apprehend on a daily basis: daily travel, economic complementarities, exceptional natural and heritage resources … All of this makes it a vast shared territory that goes beyond the institutional perimeters.
The various inter-municipal authorities are faced with many common challenges, particularly in terms of attractiveness and influence, development and planning, revitalization of city centers, ecological transition or regional positioning. And all admit that some responses to these issues cannot be complete without a global vision and without cooperation, at the right scale.
The observation is made. Now, it is a question of getting into action for the EPCIs of the large living area of Avignon. Initially, all reflected on their synergies, on how to articulate their territorial policy and to what extent they can carry out common actions.
At the initiative of the Agglo Grand Avignon and the community of communes of Sorgues du Comtat, with the support of the Rhône Avignon Vaucluse town planning agency, two first meetings have taken place since July between the presidents of these intercommunalities. Among them, the communities of the Comtat Ventoux Venaissin and Gard Rhodanien agglomeration as well as the communities of municipalities of the Pays des Sorgues and the Monts de Vaucluse, the Pays d’Apt Luberon, Ventoux Sud and Pont-du-Gard.
The presidents were thus able to define priority subjects for cooperation, in particular relating to mobility and regional planning. A roadmap has been defined for 2022 in order to determine the most suitable form of this alliance and to foreshadow joint actions in terms of sustainable mobility.
In February 2022, a third meeting is planned and will be for the other open inter-municipal authorities of the Grand Bassin d’Avignon wishing to be associated with this process. Its objective will be to advance in the formalization of the most relevant tool to manage this unprecedented cooperation.
