Political stability: “Portugal can only gain if there is a broad understanding”
Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa once again defended the need for political stability in Portugal. The Head of State said that it cannot be “an effort translated into mini-political cycles”. A little over a month into the new legislative period, Bernardo Ferrão analyzes the words of the President of the Republic.
“Portugal can only gain if there was a broad understanding. We will soon see whether this wish of the President is utopian or not, a wish that looks great at the end of the year, at the time of holidays and Christmas, but which then does not materialize in practice”, says the deputy director of information at SIC News.
Regarding the appointment of Gouveia e Melo to the position of Chief of Staff of the Navy, Bernardo Ferrão Velha said that Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa’s decision to accept the Government’s proposal “was to be expected”.
“I think that what happened a few months ago was clearly a mistake and an exclusion by the Government, which did not expedite the matter with the President of the Republic and the President of the Republic, what I said was ‘no, the last word is mine’ ” he says, affirming that the nomination “is more than deserved”.
Bernardo Ferrão also highlights the work performed by Gouveia e Melo as coordinator of the task force for vaccination, adding that “he deserves all this applause”. However, he remembers that being seen “as a savior can be a bit dangerous”.
