Like a Christmas present… A beautiful poster, well packaged between Friborg and Lugano. Two teams on fire, like Nathan Marchon on the Dragon side and Troy Josephs on the Ticino side, which could offer a seasonal spectacle. But sometimes there are New Years Eve days that go short. This match never really took off. Without the repetition of efforts combined with a busy infirmary did not help Christian Dubé. The coach of the Dragons had to deal with the absence of Daniel Brodin, ill, who was added to those of Mauro Dufner, Raphaël Diaz and Samuel Walser. On the other hand, in the Ticino camp, Chris McSorley could deal with everyone.
Since the former GE Servette coach resumed service with the gang, he had never had so many assets in his game. Starting with a North American triplet Josephs-Arcobello-Carr who is capable of bending any National League defense. It is also these three men who put order in the house after the opening of the score signed Nathan Marchon. The 12th but of the man form of the moment could not even be announced by the speaker that Marc Arcobello received and made the best use of an offering from Daniel Carr.
This lightning equalizer was not scandalous since the opening of the scoring, also superb (what a pass from Killian Mottet) had been registered against the course of the game. Without being brilliant, far from it, Lugano logically weighed on the match by lining up four complete lines where Friborg could only include eleven names on the scoresheet. A little short, therefore, the Dragons did not tackle only three shots on target in the first period. No doubt a negative record since the start of the season.
A balanced second part of the match
The debates became somewhat balanced thereafter. If Alessio Bertaggia immediately converted a nice pass from Samuel Guerra, Friborg had the merit of hanging on to the branches when the referees remembered that they had a whistle around their neck. Killian Mottet was sent to the dungeon more than twice for an excess of aggression. He was then joined by Ryan Gunderson who swept an opponent into the neutral zone. Two minutes with two men less, the case would have to turn out badly with Ticinese rather comfortable for some time in power play.
Chris McSorley’s men failed to take advantage of this golden opportunity. Nothing like reviving an opponent so far extinct. With that quiet strength that has characterized it since the start of the season, Friborg then went crescendo. Courage more than talent, he slowly but surely turned the game in his favor. Who other than Nathan Marchon to tear off an equalization of the seal of confidence which inhabits the young Fribourgeois. The BCF Arena has its new darling.
The two teams in form at the end of the calendar year have therefore neutralized each other in regulation time. It was ultimately the indefatigable Killian Mottet who offered the extra point to his colors.
Like a Christmas present.
