Frankfurt: Daughter (4) is infected with Corona: teacher and city councilor has drastic demands
A city councilor from Frankfurt is currently in quarantine with her Corona-infected daughter (4). Now she has a drastic request.
Frankfurt – For a week, Sara Steinhardt and her family have only seen their district from the window. And hope that after the hoped-for negative test result, it is finally over. “Every morning my daughter asks me whether she is still sick, why she is not allowed to see anyone, why we cannot go out,” reports the teacher, who is also child representative in Gallus, CDU city councilor and parliamentary group leader in local advisory council 1.
Her daughter Johanna (4) tested positive a week ago, and the result was confirmed by a PCR test the next day. “For a moment the world stood still and collapsed,” Steinhardt describes her first reaction to this news. trust, their trust in the crisis management of the offices and departments has been shaken. Especially the hard-to-reach health department feels abandoned.
Frankfurt: Infection of daughter (4) of the city councilor Steinhardt probably in the daycare
Johanna’s infection probably in daycare. The daily routine for the family has changed since the diagnosis: “So far, I have stayed at home because of Johanna, my husband and I try to separate ourselves and the children as well as possible so that your brother does not get infected too,” says Steinhardt. Aside from fever and a slight cough, Johanna, like many small children, had no other symptoms. But the fear that she could get Long Covid is still there.
“We have been extremely cautious for two years, all adults in our family have been boosted,” Steinhardt emphasizes. “Too little testing is done in the day-care center, which is also due to the fact that you have to present the money for the tests yourself and only receive it at the end of the year.” Frankfurt. “And that, although there are certainly lollipop pool tests with the reliability of PCR tests for children too,” Steinhardt emphasizes.
Corona in Frankfurt: No binding information from the health department
“It is particularly annoying that last week on Monday (December 13th, 2021) and Friday (December 17th, 2021) we spent at least half an hour on the phone in the health department,” complains Steinhardt. “In the end, they couldn’t give us any legally binding information and we were toasted to a letter.”
But that did not come because names and dates were confused in the office. Steinhardt himself researched the earliest possible day for free testing of her family, especially since they heard from another mother who tested positive that the health department only sent letters with general information about Corona, without taking into account the individual situation of those who were tested.
Steinhardt is also very concerned about how vaccinations and school operations will continue with the Omikron variant. “Since nobody in our family was infected with Johanna, I assume that she was not infected with the Omicron variant,” she says. Your positive test was not verified by sequencing. “I would give anything to have my children vaccinated. I am very sad that there is still no approved vaccine for under 5-year-olds, ”complains the mother.
Corona in Frankfurt: “Have long been calling for air filters and air purifiers for schools and daycare centers”
Hygiene standards are not making progress in Frankfurt schools either. “As the CDU, we have been calling for air filters and air purifiers for schools and, in a second step, for daycare centers since the summer,” Steinhardt emphasizes. It is simply negligent that the school and health department does not meet this obligation. “How can you care so much about children? And how can you always refer the teachers to ventilation, because at these temperatures you can’t teach properly if the students are flash frozen every 20 minutes? ”Steinhardt continues.
And then the most recent change: “The health department finally calls after a week, tells us that we have tested ourselves too early, should do the test again at the trade fair and therefore have to wait a day longer for the results to die.” With all due consideration for the overloading of the authorities, something like this should not happen with modern data acquisition.
The hope remains that, given the circumstances, we will be able to return to something normal at Christmas. Was Steinhardt thinking of a lockdown in view of the Omikron variant? “With a view to the conditions and measures in Great Britain, we would need the at short notice during the next Christmas break in order to keep the school running as possible afterwards and to get ahead of the wave”, she concludes.
