Boletus wants to remain mayor. According to him, Prague deserves stability
Pirates to the municipal elections in Prague next year again successful mayor Zdeněk Hřib. The members of the Prague pirate organization decided on this in an online vote. In the second round, he defeated the Deputy Mayor of Prague 10, Jana Komrsková. Boletus received 116 out of 212 votes, Komrsková is supported by 85 voters. The pirates stated it on their website.
Hřib has previously said that he wants to continue his work begun during this election period. “Prague deserves the political continuity and stability of the completion of the work we have begun. Even though we consider our election period to be successful, it is possible to complete all the projects we have started in three years,” he said. He added that he wants to continue, for example, planting trees, measures to combat climate change, the construction of urban housing and schools or the completion of the metro and other important transport structures.
Komrsková wanted to return the party to the party’s original principles. “Openness, transparency, efficiency of management, access to information, control of power and the powerful,” she said in her candidate’s speech. According to her, one of the foundations of the work of pirate politicians should be the search for unfairness, the detection and subsequent solution of which. “I would like to change the way we communicate with individual city districts and promote their fairer financial support and closer cooperation on local projects, especially civic amenities, education, housing, public space, playgrounds and transport,” she added.
The first round of voting took place from 10 to 13 December, and in addition to Hřiby and Komrsková, the councilor of Prague 12, Jiří Brůžek, and the director of the non-profit organization Fokus Praha, Magdalena Opletalová, also applied for the position of leader. Hřib, Komrsková and Brůžek advanced to the second round, the latter withdrawing the candidacy. The first round of voting members is 190 pages, the second 212 out of 271.
Municipal elections will be held next autumn. The pirates in the last in 2018 finished second to the ODS. They won about 17 percent of the vote, 13 seats in the 65-member city council and in a coalition with Prague Sobě and the United Forces for Prague (TOP 09, STAN, KDU-ČSL) and the position of mayor.
