Scheinherr (Prague itself): Jiřího z Poděbrad metro station will be barrier-free

The three escalators that will be replaced during the reconstruction of the Jiřího z Poděbrad metro station will be paid for with European money thanks to the Prague – Growth Pole of the Czech Republic Operational Program. Prague councilors approved the release of almost 100 million crowns. The repair will contribute to the energy efficiency of the building, increase safety and smooth operation. The material will still be approved by the city council.
Today, Prague councilors approved the provision of a subsidy within the 33rd calls of the Operational Program Prague – Pole of Growth of the Czech Republic in the total amount of 99,631,828 crowns for the replacement of escalators during the reconstruction of the Jiřího z Poděbrad metro station. The request is the municipal company Dopravní podnik hl. m of Prague (DPP), which is now reconstructing the metro station.
“The three existing escalators at Jiřího z Poděbrad station leading from the platform to the vestibule are obsolete. Thanks to the negotiated money from the European Union, they will be replaced by new escalators, which will not only increase passenger safety, including children and traffic flow, but also reduce energy consumption, operating costs and environmental impact, ”says the mayor of Prague Zdeněk Hřib.
“We started the transformation of Jiřího z Poděbrad Square in September this year with new crossings in the southern tip, so that people do not have to wander in the underpasses. We are now working on the complete reconstruction of the metro station and vestibules. The new Jiřího z Poděbrad station will be barrier-free, and the excavation of the shaft for elevators is already underway, ”says Adam Scheinherr, Deputy Mayor for Transport.

Leaks and other parts of the station will also be repaired. The station will have new, more economical lighting, distribution and air conditioning. The repairs will cost a total of 1.29 billion crowns. DPP expects the work to be completed by the end of February 2024.
In addition to the repair of the metro station, the public space on Jiřího z Poděbrad Square in the same name will also be reconstructed in the future. The construction work should start next year, and even in this case it is planned to use funds from the European Union, which Prague negotiated for the reconstruction of public space.
In total, the European Regional Development Fund will travel to the capital in the future. m of Prague up to 3.5 billion crowns from the Integrated Regional Operational Program for the development of public space, digitization of public administration and e-government, low-emission urban mobility and modernization of secondary schools.
