Prague will abolish the fiakr site from 2023. According to experts in the city, horses are suffering
From January 2023, Prague will abolish places that are used by coaches to park tourist fiacs. On Monday, December 20, it approved council changes to the so-called market regulations, which determine where and what can be sold in the metropolis. According to Councilor Adam Zábranský (Pirates), horse-drawn carriages in the city are problematic and animals suffer, according to experts.

Zábranský said that this was not a carriage, but the end of support from the city by providing places for parking carriages in Stromovka and Staroměstské náměstí. Councilor Jan Chabr (TOP 09) added that the date of cancellation from 2023 should ensure the possibility of discussion with carriage operators and the possible finding of a new home for animals.
According to Zábranský, world capitals such as Paris, London, Rome, Barcelona and Montreal have already taken similar steps. He added that the step follows the campaign Horse is not a machine, which is organized by the Voice of Animals association. According to the councilor, smog, high and low temperatures and hard surfaces hurt horses in city traffic.

Chabr added that the change in the market rules also applies to other areas. According to him, the markets will be newly divided into farm, food, flower, arts and crafts, specialized, mixed, flea, Christmas, Easter and All Saints’ Day, with each type having a clearly defined range. “Given the city’s climate commitment, there is a new rule that all markets, markets and markets should prevent waste by minimizing the use of disposable plastic products,” he added.
Among the tourist attractions offered in the center, the city has previously banned, among other things, segway carts, so-called beer bikes or performances in giant costumes such as pandas. There is also a discussion about shared electric scooters, with central districts and locals complaining about irresponsible use.
