People in Prague are trying to get a third dose of vaccination before they are entitled
“The Ministry of Health is currently considering all options to make vaccination more effective,” Ondřej Jakob, spokesman for the new Minister Vlastimil Válka (TOP 09), answered the question whether the new ministry is planning to change the scheme according to age.
Currently, people over the age of 45 are entitled to a third dose of the vaccine five months after completing the vaccination, younger than six months. From 5 January, according to the emergency measure in force, young people under the age of 35 should also be vaccinated after five months, and from 19 January, everyone should be vaccinated. “We do not rule out that in a few cases we reached out to people who would reach the age limit for the booster dose a few days later,” wrote Marie Heřmánková, a spokeswoman for the General University Hospital in Prague.
The reason why the former management of the ministry did not want to start vaccinations after five months for all at once as early as December 17 was the imminent attack on vaccination sites. For example, the centers in Kotva or at the main railway station have few people interested. Queues do not form and the waiting comes almost immediately.
Five months after vaccination, there are currently 4.1 million people. 1.96 million of them received the booster dose so far. The difference between the number of people who can get vaccinated according to the current rules to allow revaccination to all adults after five months is about 570,000 people.
In the last month, 290,000 doses of covid-19 vaccine were administered in Prague. About 192,000 of them were just boosting third doses. In December, there are around 9,000 to 10,000 of them on weekdays. On the contrary, the numbers of new vaccinees have fallen sharply. While in the last week of November there were over 3,500 of them on weekdays, in the last week only around 950 per day.
